Scrollwell conducted the 03-Day Technical Workshop on Systematic Literature Review & Research Gaps from October 05 to 07, 2026. The workshop focused on helping educators, researchers, and postgraduate students understand systematic literature review methods and identify meaningful research gaps.
The program introduced a structured approach to literature searching, study selection, evidence synthesis, and research question development. It also covered the PRISMA framework and methods for organizing research findings to support academic writing and publication.
Event Highlights
The workshop began with the foundations of Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and research gap identification. Participants explored the difference between a research problem and a research gap. They also learned how to formulate focused research questions based on existing literature.
Next, the sessions covered academic database searching and search strategy development. Participants explored Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. They also learned about Boolean operators, keyword mapping, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and documenting search strategies.
The final session focused on the PRISMA 2020 framework, data extraction, and thematic synthesis. Participants explored the stages of literature screening and selection. In addition, the session covered methods for organizing studies into themes and structuring an SLR chapter to support research gap justification.
Participation Details
The online workshop provided a structured learning experience for educators, researchers, and postgraduate students. Across three sessions, participants explored the key stages of a systematic literature review, from developing search strategies to synthesizing research findings.
The Zoom-based format supported remote participation. It also provided opportunities to discuss research methods and their application to participants’ own research topics.
Outcomes
The workshop strengthened participants’ understanding of systematic literature review methodology and structured research practices. They explored how to develop search strings, apply screening criteria, and document literature selection systematically.
Participants also gained insights into using PRISMA, extracting information from selected studies, and organizing literature through thematic synthesis. These skills can support clearer research gap identification and more methodical preparation of theses and research papers.
Feedback
The workshop brought together essential concepts and methods for conducting systematic literature reviews. Its focus on database searching, PRISMA, and thematic synthesis provided a structured overview of the review process.
The program also highlighted the importance of transparent search strategies and evidence-based research gap identification. These practices are valuable for researchers preparing literature reviews, theses, and scholarly manuscripts.
Acknowledgments
Scrollwell extends its sincere thanks to Dr. Arpana Chaturvedi for guiding participants through systematic literature review methodology, research gap identification, database searching, and evidence synthesis.
We also thank all participating educators, researchers, and postgraduate students for their involvement and commitment to strengthening their research skills. Their interest in systematic and transparent research practices reflects the importance of methodological rigor in academic work.
