Project Overview

This position is linked to the project: “Environmental Surveillance of Respiratory Viruses and Other Pathogens.” The work involves genomic analysis of wastewater to detect and track pathogens. Wastewater testing provides an early warning system for community health by identifying infection trends before clinical cases surge.

The Research Assistant will focus on bioinformatics analysis and visualization of genomic data, integrating spatial and temporal information to identify regionally prevalent variants.


Duration

  • Initially for 1 year
  • Extendable based on performance and project requirements

Salary

  • Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience

Eligibility Criteria

RequirementDetails
QualificationMaster’s degree in Bioinformatics or related disciplines with a strong computational background
Programming SkillsProficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or R
Research ExperienceExperience in ecological or epidemiological studies preferred
Other SkillsFluency in scientific writing, data visualization, problem-solving, and ability to work independently as well as in a team

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide bioinformatics support for genomic data analysis from wastewater samples
  • Use available software packages (open-source and commercial) for processing and visualization
  • Assist in identifying genomic diversity of pathogens and regional variants
  • Collaborate with team members on data interpretation and publication writing
  • Ensure timely completion of project milestones
