Position Overview

IIT Kanpur invites applications from eligible candidates for the position of Research Associate-I, purely on a temporary basis, for a research project focused on catalytic reaction modelling and methane pyrolysis.

Project Title

“Modeling the Nature of Active Sites in Molten Metal Halide Catalyst for COx-free Production of H₂ from Methane Pyrolysis.”

This project involves advanced computational research with applications in sustainable hydrogen production.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following qualifications and skill requirements:

Minimum Educational Qualification

  • Ph.D. in one of the following disciplines:
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Chemistry
    • Physics
    • Materials Science

Essential Skills

  • Strong fundamentals in catalysis
  • Prior experience with density functional theory (DFT) calculations
    • Preferably using VASP, CP2K, or similar software
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ or Fortran
  • Experience with Linux shell scripting
  • Familiarity with High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments

Applicants with a solid computational background and experience in modelling catalytic systems will be given preference.


Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work on:

  • Computational modelling of active catalytic sites
  • DFT-based simulations for methane pyrolysis
  • Data interpretation, code development, and workflow automation
  • Collaboration with research teams and preparation of project reports
