About the Institution
GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, is India’s first agricultural university, established on the land-grant pattern of the United States. After independence, the Government of India prioritized rural development, and in 1949 the Radhakrishnan University Education Commission emphasized the need for agricultural education through rural universities. In 1954, an Indo-American team led by Dr. K.R. Damle, then Vice-President of ICAR, recommended the establishment of such a university. GBPUAT has since been a pioneer in agricultural education, research, and extension, contributing significantly to the advancement of farming and rural livelihoods in India.
