About Prof. Saroj Chandrasekhar

    • Ph.D. in Bacteriology from Imperial College of Science and Technology, UK (1950).
  • Career Milestones:
    • Post-doctoral fellowship at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
    • Full professor and head of the Department of Microbiology, Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, University of Delhi.
    • Visiting faculty member at Johns Hopkins University, USA, conducting pivotal research in tuberculosis pathogenesis.

Her research demonstrated the existence of cell-wall-deficient forms of tubercle bacilli, leading to a better understanding of how tuberculosis persists and reactivates in the human body. Prof. Chandrasekhar’s work continues to influence modern treatments for tuberculosis.
