UMANG Fellowship for School Teachers

The UMANG Fellowship for Teachers is a transformative, one-year, part-time program aimed at empowering teachers to create joyful teaching spaces and nurture emotionally safe, engaging learning environments. Funded by the Flourishing Minds Fund, America, this fellowship offers a unique opportunity to integrate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into classrooms. Through a hybrid learning model, it combines in-person training at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, with flexible online sessions.

Who Can Apply for the UMANG Fellowship for Teachers?

This fellowship is ideal for educators who are passionate about mental health, social-emotional learning (SEL), and creating joyful classrooms. Teachers who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  1. A graduate/bachelor’s degree in any subject.
  2. Currently teaching in a school (government or non-government) with 3+ years of teaching experience.
  3. Fluent in English (reading and writing) and Hindi (speaking).
  4. Committed to the entire fellowship duration, willing to apply SEL practices in their classrooms.
  5. For applicants outside Mumbai: Willingness to travel to TISS Mumbai for in-person training at their own expense.

Objectives of the UMANG Fellowship for Teachers

The UMANG Fellowship aims to:

  • Raise teachers’ awareness of the importance of emotional safety in great teaching and learning.
  • Equip teachers with tools and strategies to manage their own well-being and support students’ well-being.
  • Support teachers in applying their learning through a classroom project aimed at creating SEL-friendly schools.

  6. A Certificate of Completion awarded upon fulfilling program requirements.

Program Timelines and Commitment

  • Launch of Next Batch: January 2025
  • Program Duration: 50 hours over 1 year
    • First Half (20 hours):
      • 2 in-person training sessions (4 hours each)
      • 6 online training sessions (2 hours each)
    • Second Half (30 hours):
      • Implementation of an SEL project in your classroom over 4-5 months.

  1. Updated CV/resume.
  2. A 500-word write-up (PDF format) detailing:
    • Your motivation for applying to the fellowship.
    • The SEL project you aim to implement in your classroom.
  3. If required, a No Objection Certificate (NoC) from your organization.

Application Deadline: December 31st, 2024.
Note: Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for personal interviews.
