The Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship is instituted by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) to honor and support outstanding engineers for their contributions to translational research and technological innovations. Fellowship Objectives

The primary goal of the Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship is to promote excellence in engineering, innovation, and technology development with a focus on translational research, which includes:

  • Patents and pilot-scale field trials

Eligibility Criteria

EducationMust possess at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
Service TenureMinimum of 5 years of service left in the current organization
Other FellowshipsCannot hold any other fellowship concurrently

Fellowship Benefits

Monthly Fellowship₹25,000 (in addition to regular income)
Research Grant₹15 lakh per annum
Institutional Overhead₹1 lakh per annum
TaxabilityFellowship is taxable as per GoI rules
Maximum Duration5 years (initial 3 years + 2-year extension)

Expected Outcomes

The fellowship focuses only on translational research, which should result in at least one of the following:

  • Commercially deployable technology
  • Patents (filed, sold, or commercialized)
  • Prototypes or models suitable for field demonstration
  • Field trials or pilot-scale solutions
  • Beyond academic publications
