Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for admission to this prestigious program, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Hold an M. Tech./ME or equivalent degree in appropriate disciplines, with a minimum of 60% marks or a 6.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale). GATE qualification in an appropriate discipline is mandatory.OR
  • Possess a B Tech/BE or equivalent degree in relevant disciplines with a minimum of 70% marks or a 7.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale). GATE qualification in an appropriate discipline is mandatory.
  • Maintain a minimum of 60% marks or a 6.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) in all other examinations from Class 10 onwards. A relaxation of up to 5% marks in secondary/higher secondary/equivalent examinations is permissible.
  • The minimum qualifying degree required for seeking admission to the Ph.D. program is M. Tech/ME/MS/M.Sc (Engg.) or B. Tech/BE/B.Sc (Engg.).

Selection Procedure

The selection process for the Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme is designed to identify the most promising scholars. It comprises both a written test and an interview, with the following weightage:

  • Written Test: 40%
  • Interview: 60%

Schools offering the program may set specific cut-off scores for the written test and/or interview based on their requirements. Final selection is based on a candidate’s combined performance in both the written test and interview.

Application Fee

As part of the application process, candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee. The fee structure is as follows:

  • For General, General (EWS), and OBC Candidates: Rs. 500/-
  • For SC/ST/PwD Candidates: Rs. 250/-
  • Application Fee (Non-refundable) for Foreign Nationals: USD 50

It’s important to note that once the application fee is paid, it cannot be refunded under any circumstances. Female candidates are exempted from paying the application fee.
